Summary of Position Function

Manages the preliminary screening process within the Central Intake Department to determine acuity of risk for new individuals seeking to link with services.  Assures that individuals determined to be at elevated risk or need of immediate services is linked with a clinical team member.   Responsible for offering orientation to the agency’s scope of clinical services to ensure individuals are paired with the most appropriate level of care based on their need.  Possesses intuitive and engaging nature in conducting preliminary screenings to serve as a good representative of the agency’s core values.

Education Requirements

Educational requirements include at least an Associate’s degree in a human services field

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related human services field preferred


One (1) year experience working in a human services setting preferred

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and demonstration of agency core values in day-to-day activities
  • Works in collaboration with the Central Intake Department to assist in the intake process to promote rapid access to treatment services
  • Conducts preliminary screenings of presenting problem and risk assessment for individuals seeking behavioral health services
  • Possesses strong judgement skills to determine acuity of risk based on preliminary screening to assure individuals at elevated risk are offered immediate and urgent intervention by a clinical team member
  • Offers input and orientation to individuals seeking services from Spectrum Health about the services offered at the various clinical settings to pair individuals with the most appropriate services offered within the agency
  • Serves as a point person for referring entities to ensure ease of access for referrals from external providers
  • Collects other nonclinical and demographic information from new individuals seeking services as appropriate
  • Provides outreach to individuals scheduled for initial assessments or those who have missed scheduled appointments to aid in engaging them in clinical services
  • Acts as a liaison between the individual seeking services and the clinical resources within the agency to ensure ease of access to services (e.g.- linkage to case management services, referral to Urgent Care services)
  • Performs copying, filing, other office support functions as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Must possess skill and knowledge related to: all facets of programmatic services
  • Work effectively on multiple tasks concurrently; communicate exceptionally well in writing and orally
  • Present a strong professional image
  • Exercise exceptionally good judgment
  • Must have computer skills, experience with all Microsoft products preferred
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership; meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Must have sensitivity to individuals with a behavioral health diagnosis and an ability to respond calmly to distress or upset in others.
