Summary of Position Function

Position funded through December, 2021

Ensures the provision of high quality Crisis Counseling services including referrals to individuals in Erie County who may have substance use disorders, mental health disorders and/or co-occurring disorders including site and community based interventions.  Responsible for day to day operations of the CCP Project. Ensure project milestones are met and works to resolve any barriers. Works collaboratively with other departments.   Provides oversight to supervisees. Also is responsible for referral to other appropriate services and coordination with other service providers.  Performs related tasks as required.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services Program with one (1) year supervised field practicum in a Mental Health or Human Services setting or one (1) year paid experience in a Mental Health or Human Services setting
  • Master’s Degree Preferred


  • One to three years in Mental Health or Human Services setting dependent on certification/education

Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and demonstration of agency core values in day-to-day activities
  • Leads a team of crisis counselors in the field.
  • Is usually an experienced disaster behavioral health worker or behavioral health professional who supervises paraprofessional or less experienced crisis counselors.
  • May help to assess people who require traditional mental health or substance use treatment.
  • May be one of several team leads on staff with a provider, depending on the size and scope of the disaster.
  • Trains, debriefs, and provides supervision for the crisis counselors.
  • Uses data to conduct ongoing needs assessment.
  • Coordinates data collection activities and reviews data form submissions for accuracy.
  • If the program is using the mobile application, the team leader reviews and accepts or rejects forms submitted through the mobile application.
  • May use the mobile application to complete data forms.
  • Provides coordination and oversight of the crisis counselors’ plans of service.
  • May perform crisis counseling as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Frequent or occasional driving of personal vehicle for purpose of transporting clients in the community and/or site visits (client or work related)


Preferred to possess one of the following:

  • Credentialing as an Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor.
  • Licensure as a Psychologist.
  • Licensure as a Social Worker.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor.
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

Based on program need and applicant pool, eligibility to obtain the credentials or certification within one (1) year will be acceptable.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and computer software.  Familiar with all Microsoft products
  • Training in Motivational Interviewing and Person-Centered Planning
